My work spans editorial, strategic and project-based communication — often within the same assignment.
What begins as a specific brief can evolve into a broader collaboration or recurring role, particularly for projects that increase in complexity over time.
Editorial work
I edit, rewrite and proofread texts for specific audiences, from co-authored policy documents to dense reports.
I also write from scratch, turning interview material into published articles or developing online content for non-specialist audiences.
Throughout, I work closely with authors and subject specialists to resolve questions of meaning, consistency and emphasis.

Editing a national public-health report written by clinicians, researchers and data specialists, ensuring the English accurately reflected the science.
Writing and editing feature articles for the intranet of a global maritime firm as part of an organisation-wide change initiative.

Strategic communication advice
I advise on how to reach the right audience with the right message, and on the practical choices that follow.
This often means working alongside teams who know their subject inside out, but need an outside perspective on how to communicate it effectively.
Selected examples
Shaping the participant communication strategy for a longitudinal study on poverty — working across stakeholders to build consensus, then leading the translation of that strategy into practical deliverables. These ranged from newsletters and website development to audiovisuals and animations, all driven by the twin challenges of participant recruitment and retention.
Devising team-level engagement approaches to support a cultural shift within a large international organisation, focused on creating conditions for open discussion and learning from mistakes.
Identifying material within a nonprofit's internal reporting suitable for a shorter, more visual public version aimed at demonstrating value to funders and external stakeholders.
Project-based communication
I manage communication across projects over time, coordinating people, managing budgets, planning materials, and adapting to shifting constraints.

Running a four-year communications operation for an applied research project at a Dutch university — from supplier coordination and budget oversight to GDPR-compliant telecoms procurement, with continuous feedback cycles and adjustments as the project evolved.
Developing a communication plan with the in-house communications lead of a Dutch nonprofit for the later phases of a multi-year programme, working within strict budgetary constraints.
Overhauling a client’s communication materials and presentation ahead of a major international trade show in Asia.
Translation and localisation
I translate from Dutch and Swedish into (British) English, and refine English texts drafted by non-native speakers.
My clients are mainly in the tourism, education and creative industries, with a particular focus on audio scripts.
Much of this work requires significant creative adaptation — reimagining not only tone, voice and cultural context, but adapting humour, characterisation and delivery for a new audience.
